Warning: An energy scam is doing the rounds

We’ve received reports of scammers calling people claiming they owe money to an energy retailer and threatening to disconnect them if they don’t pay up immediately.

If you get a call like this, you should hang up and call your retailer directly. Get their phone number from their website or your most recent bill. Don’t use any contact details given to you by the caller.

For the record, retailers can only disconnect you if certain conditions are met. More information is available on our Disconnections page.

If you’ve gotten a similar phone call, you can report it to ScamWatch.
