About Energy Made Easy

Energy Made Easy is an Australian Government website maintained by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER). Under the National Energy Retail Law which came into effect on 1 July 2012, the AER must operate a price comparison website.

The National Energy Retail Law currently operates in:

• New South Wales
• Queensland
• South Australia
• Tasmania
• the Australian Capital Territory.

The aim of Energy Made Easy is to help residential and small business energy consumers navigate the often complex electricity and gas retail markets to find a suitable energy plan.

As detailed within the AER Retail Pricing Information Guidelines, retailers must:

• submit plan information to Energy Made Easy in language which is clear, simple and widely understood
• on their websites, link to an HTML version of the plan documents on Energy Made Easy
• submit information to Energy Made Easy on each generally available plan within 2 business days of the plan becoming available to customers
• remove expired or obsolete plans from publication on Energy Made Easy within 2 business days of the plan becoming unavailable to customers
• ensure the information published on Energy Made Easy and retailer websites is accurate and up to date.

This website also helps you to understand and compare your residential electricity usage against other similar households in your area, and to learn about energy-related topics such as energy efficiency, contracts, bills, your rights and obligations, and the energy market.

About the Australian Energy Regulator

The AER is Australia's national energy market regulator and has an independent board.

The AER is funded by the Commonwealth Government and shares staff, resources and facilities with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

The AER operates under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. Its functions are set out in national energy market legislation and rules and mostly relate to energy markets in eastern and southern Australia.
