It’s that time of year again when energy retailers make changes to their prices – so you may see an increase to your energy prices.
What does this mean for you and your energy bill? There is no greater time than now to take a closer look at your plan to make sure you’re on the best one for you.
We understand the energy market can be hard to navigate, but there are easy and accessible tools to help you shop around to find the best deal. Visiting Energy Made Easy (EME) is a good first step to exploring your options.
EME is government operated, so you can be confident in knowing that it’s independent, and there are no commissions or commercial deals influencing the results you see. It’s not a switching service, but it does let you compare all the plans that are available to you in your area. All you need to do is follow the easy-to-answer questions with some basic information about your energy usage – you don’t need to enter any personal information though, like your name or address.
Keep in mind you can also call your current energy retailer to ask for a better deal – you don’t always have to change to a different provider to save money.
In weighing up your options, price shouldn’t be the only factor that influences your decision-making. Retailers may offer other benefits like additional products you value, discounts (although you should look carefully at whether a big discount will really save you money), or monthly billing to help you manage costs.
Retailers are currently making their new plans available on EME, although it may take some time for them to have all their plans in the system. It’s worth waiting a few days before you look for a new deal, or checking with your retailer before signing up to see if their prices will be changing soon.

If you’re in this position, pick up the phone and talk to your retailer – they can offer you a payment plan to manage costs or put you on a hardship program. Some are also signed up to the Sustainable Payment Plans Framework, which aims to help customers manage their energy bills when it might be a little harder to do so.
